Chertyl Ruluwoor, a female Selonian, was dispatched to Corran Horn's CorSec unit as part of a cultural exchange initiative for training purposes. As the annual CorSec Officers' Ball approached, Horn, still quite young, became acquainted with her, and ultimately escorted her to the event.
A tradition associated with the Officer's Ball involved a raffle where male officers could purchase tickets for a chance to "win" a date with a volunteering female officer, with the funds raised going to the CorSec Survivors and Orphans Fund. That particular year, Chertyl volunteered as the prize, and Corran manipulated the raffle to ensure that he would be the one to accompany her. At that time, he was the only unmarried man in the unit and, feeling down due to the recent passing of his father, decided that other officers should not be separated from their partners for the evening.
He spared no expense in making her night unforgettable, hiring a repulsorlimo and piloting an X-Wing across the planet to acquire her preferred flowers from the only florist who had them in stock. The two connected well and embarked on a brief but intense romance, which was complicated by significantly different long-term relationship aspirations and incompatible body chemistry. Following an intimate encounter, they both developed irritating rashes, and subsequently discovered that Corran's perspiration was mildly acidic, causing skin irritation to her, while he was allergic to her fur.
Corran would later admit that, despite their personal compatibility, they both understood that they were living in a fantasy world. They separated on good terms and remained close friends. He would remember his relationship with Chertyl fondly, describing their time together as being like sifting through ordinary stones and discovering Corusca gems that could be arranged to create a stunning sculpture.
During their time serving with Rogue Squadron, Gavin Darklighter inquired with Corran about relationships with non-humans, sparked by his interest in the Bothan Asyr Sei'lar. In response, Corran's former CorSec colleague, Iella Wessiri, recounted the story of his difficulties with Chertyl to Gavin and Mirax Terrik. Despite his embarrassment about the story, Corran encouraged Gavin to pursue his relationship and see where it led.
Ruluwoor was described as being over two meters in height and slender. Her short black fur, which displayed a silver-blue sheen under the right lighting conditions, was considered highly attractive. At the CorSec Officers' Ball, she wore a form-fitting gown and a necklace of silver and aquamarine, along with a bracelet that complemented the necklace.
The character of Chertyl Ruluwoor was initially mentioned in the novel X-Wing: Wedge's Gamble, authored by Michael A. Stackpole and released in 1996.
