The chinar tree, a tree species originating from Alderaan, was sensitive to the sun and possessed a unique aroma reminiscent of both spice and fire. Despite the destruction of Alderaan in 0 BBY at the hands of the Galactic Empire, chinar trees survived beyond their original homeworld due to the existence of seed repositories. These trees adorned the Canto Bight piazza on the planet Cantonica. Furthermore, prior to Alderaan's demise, chinar trees flourished in the rooftop gardens of Coruscant for numerous years.
