The Civilian Astrogation Corps comprised a loosely affiliated band of astrogators and explorers whose main duty was to maintain current navigational information for hyperspace. The JumpMaster 5000 patrol boat from the Corellian Engineering Corporation was their vessel of choice.
The Imperial Survey Corps took over the centralized management of hyperspace data updates during the Imperial Era. In the beginning of the Galactic Empire's reign, the Survey Corps extended military commission offers to many members of the Civilian Astrogation Corps; most declined, as the offer included the condition that all data pertaining to the Unknown Regions would be classified as state secrets. Instead, the Astrogation Corps' independent members continued charting the edges of Wild Space aboard their JumpMasters.
In the updated Star Wars canon, the Civilian Astrogation Corps initially appeared in the Starships and Speeders supplement for Star Wars Roleplaying by Fantasy Flight Games in 2020. The organization has roots in the Star Wars Legends timeline, where it was first referenced in the 2013 rulebook for the Star Wars: Edge of the Empire roleplaying game, also by Fantasy Flight Games.
