Classic Star Wars #1 represents the inaugural issue of the Classic Star Wars comic series. This comic presents the initial portion of "The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell," a 1981 comic strip that originally appeared in newspapers, authored by Archie Goodwin and brought to life by the illustrations of Al Williamson. While the majority of the original newspaper strip was kept as it was, Classic Star Wars 1 benefited from Williamson's contributions of fresh panels, expanded artwork, a completely new page of story, and original cover illustrations. In 2015, Marvel Comics released a digital version, branding it under the Star Wars Legends series.
The narrative of Classic Star Wars unfolds in the timeline between the first and second Star Wars motion pictures, and each issue is action-packed. The debut issue is no different: Luke and Leia undertake a reconnaissance mission, find themselves pursued by Imperial forces, and are captured by a bounty hunter whose true target is Han Solo! What a ride! The whole thing is written by Archie Goodwin, drawn by Al Williamson, and colored by Steve Buccellato, with a new cover by Williamson.
