Al Williamson

Al Williamson was an artist who drew comic books. He contributed to the daily Star Wars comic strips, and he also worked on the comic-book versions of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, which were released by Marvel Comics.

In the year 1952, Williamson started his employment at EC Comics, specifically on their Weird Science and Weird Fantasy series. During the 1960s, he was involved with the somewhat successful comic magazines from Warren Publishing. Later, he illustrated the Flash Gordon comic book for King Comics. Toward the close of the 1960s, Williamson collaborated with writer Archie Goodwin. Together, they created the syndicated comic strip Secret Agent X-9. They would later reunite to work on the comic adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back for Marvel Comics. Following the death of Russ Manning in the early 1980s, Goodwin and Williamson assumed responsibility for the Star Wars syndicated comic strip. The same team also produced the comic adaptation of Return of the Jedi for Marvel. In the 1990s, Williamson became a consistent inker for various Marvel titles, including several years on the Daredevil title. He also provided the inking for the Dark Horse Comics adaptation of The Phantom Menace.
