During the era of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Republic seized the planet of Cato Neimoidia following its occupation by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Cato Neimoidian government, serving as the operational center for the Trade Federation, had initially aimed to remain neutral in the conflict; however, the planet transformed into a fiercely fought-over territory by both the Republic and the CIS. Due to the Federation's significance in the war, the Republic aimed to gain control of the planet, and along with the assault on Cato Neimoidia, the Republic Military executed ongoing ground and aerial offensives to maintain their dominion over the planet. Following the Republic's takeover, the Separatists attempted to reclaim Cato Neimoidia, successfully doing so via an invasion. Consequently, the Republic was compelled to initiate another assault near the war's conclusion.
