The existence of the Cosinga-class Heavy Corvette was initially brought to light within the new Star Wars canon through the sixty-third issue of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine, released in 2015. Notably, a portion of the corvette class's nomenclature echoes the given name of Cosinga Palpatine, the father of Palpatine as depicted in the 2012 Star Wars Legends novel Darth Plagueis by James Luceno.
