Before the Galactic Civil War, Var-Whill stood out as a prominent crystallist within the ranks of the Jedi Order. Following the conclusion of the Corsair Wars, Jedi Master Oo'ob enlisted Var-Whill's skills to develop the Farkiller, which was a sniper rifle enhanced with lightsaber tech. Consequently, both Oo'ob and Var-Whill were declared apostates and met their death within a decade after the Farkiller was made.
The term crystallist initially appeared in Doctor Aphra (2016) 33, a canon comic book authored by Simon Spurrier and published on June 19, 2019.
