Oo'ob, alternatively referred to as Oo'ob the Apostate, was a Jedi Master of the Gigoran species who existed more than 1000 years prior to the era of the Galactic Empire. He was known for wielding the Farkiller, a distinctive lightsaber and sniper rifle combination crafted by his fellow Jedi, Var-Whill, for the purpose of launching preemptive attacks on targets from great distances. However, their actions led to their denouncement as apostates by the Jedi High Council, resulting in their deaths.
Later, around 18 BBY, Professor Korin Aphra discovered evidence concerning Oo'ob and his transgressions, documenting his findings in "Notes on Jedi Heresies." Subsequently, around 2 ABY, Korin's daughter, Chelli Aphra, stole the Farkiller from a Slinani Migration Shrine. The weapon eventually ended up in the possession of rebels who were plotting the assassination of Emperor Palpatine.

More than 1000 years before the Battle of Yavin, Oo'ob, a Gigoran, was a Jedi Master within the Jedi Order. Following a conflict known as the Corsair Wars, he began to advocate for a more proactive approach to dealing with threats. He then enlisted the help of Var-Whill, a fellow Jedi renowned as a crystallist, to construct the Farkiller. This unique lightsaber and sniper rifle hybrid allowed Oo'ob to eliminate targets from distances of up to a hundred kilometers.
According to Professor Korin Aphra, it was speculated that Oo'ob's use of the Farkiller resulted in the deaths of several hundred "emergent despots." However, these methods were deemed to violate Jedi principles, and the Jedi High Council considered Oo'ob's actions to be excessive. Consequently, around 1000 BBY, both Oo'ob and Var-Whill were labeled as apostates and were subsequently eliminated within the following decade. Oo'ob was subsequently known by some as "Oo'ob the Apostate."

Around 18 BBY, during the time of the Galactic Empire, Korin acquired stolen memory crystals containing evidence of Oo'ob's existence and his alleged "crimes." Korin believed that the records within these crystals could lead him to the Fortress of Garn and the Ordu Aspectu, a dissident Jedi faction. Korin documented the story of Oo'ob in his work, "Notes on Jedi Heresies."
Two decades later, around 2 ABY, Korin's daughter, the archaeologist and rogue, Chelli Aphra, discovered the Farkiller while infiltrating the Slinani Migration Shrine known as the Red Mist. She then recounted Oo'ob's use of the weapon to her ward, Vulaada Klam. After stealing the Farkiller, she was apprehended by agents of the Rebel Alliance, who claimed to desire its technology to create their own superweapon for the purpose of assassinating Galactic Emperor Palpatine. The RA-7 protocol droid Teezee-Too read to Chelli the extract of "Notes on Jedi Heresies" concerning Oo'ob, as the rebels discussed their apparent superweapon plans with her. However, the superweapon was a fabrication; the Farkiller was actually part of a larger plot to assassinate the Emperor, orchestrated by Minister Pitina Voor of the Empire's propaganda division, who was manipulating the rebel conspirators. Ultimately, the plot failed.
Oo'ob wore brown and red clothing that appeared torn in several places, as well as wrappings on his lower arms and legs down to his feet. He also had a belt with compartments and a vocoder mask covering his mouth.
Oo'ob's initial appearance was as a hologram in a flashback within the thirty-second issue of the 2016 comic series Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. This issue was written by Si Spurrier, with illustrations by Wilton Santos and Caspar Wijngaard, and was published by Marvel Comics on May 8 2019.
