Gigoran

Gigorans were a sentient species of towering, hirsute humanoid beings originating from the world of Gigor. Often, these beings were taken advantage of due to their physical power, and they were frequently employed as protectors.

Biology and appearance

Gigorans, like Senna, were often enslaved for their great strength.

The Gigoran species consisted of large, shaggy creatures, bearing resemblance to the Wookiees in several aspects. Their coats of fur varied in shades of white, gray, and light brown. While they possessed the capacity to comprehend various languages, they lacked the ability to vocally produce Galactic Basic Standard. To facilitate communication with those who did not understand their native tongue, Gigorans commonly utilized translating devices affixed to their mouths, enabling them to articulate in languages other than Gigoran.

Gigorans in the galaxy

The physical strength of Gigorans made them vulnerable to exploitation. One such Gigoran, Baheeoo, served as a member of the Nihil pirate group, aboard the vessel Gaze Electric around 232 BBY. In that same year, a Gigoran entertainer performed at Hap's Sap Tap located on the planet Tenoo.

During the Age of the Empire, Moroff, a Gigoran soldier of fortune, was active. Some Gigoran warriors aligned themselves with the Rebel Alliance. Soo-Tath, a Cerean, had two Gigoran guards watching over him. Another Gigoran, named Sluncan, worked as a bodyguard for Jayyar Lu-wehs, the son of a prosperous arms dealer. Ymmoss, a Gigoran, was apprehended by the First Order alongside Cost Niktur in 34 ABY.

Behind the scenes

The Gigoran concept was initially introduced in the 1994 Legends tabletop game article titled "It's a Gambler's Life," featured in the Star Wars Adventure Journal 4. They achieved canon status through their inclusion in a 2016 update for Star Wars: Commander. Moroff in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the first Gigoran with a name to appear in canon.

In contrast to their canon counterparts, Gigorans in Legends were able to speak Galactic Basic Standard without the aid of vocoders.
