Cu'bikad, a Mandalorian pastime played indoors, accommodated a minimum of four participants and involved the insertion of short-bladed weapons into a gridded surface. Some individuals viewed cu'bikad as a rather aggressive game, leading them to argue that it should be exclusive to Mandalorians.
Within the capital city of Mandalore, Keldabe, the Oyu'baat tapcaf featured at least one cu'bikad board for customer use. During 40 ABY, Baltan Carid, Mirta Gev, Dinua Jeban, and Medrit Vasur, all Mandalorians, engaged in a cu'bikad match at the Oyu'baat.
The game known as cu'bikad made its debut in the Star Wars expanded universe through the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force book Sacrifice. This novel, penned by author Karen Traviss, was released on May 29, 2007. Initially, the tabletop game lacked a specific name, a detail that was rectified in Traviss's next contribution to the Legacy of the Force series, Revelation, which was published on February 26, 2008.
