Dark Forces: Jedi Knight was an audio drama, an adaptation crafted by John Whitman from William C. Dietz's novel bearing the same name. Peter Moore served as the director for the performance, which incorporated musical selections from the original Star Wars films' musical score composed by John Williams. HighBridge Audio released it as a set of two cassette tapes on November 1, 1998.
In Jedi Knight, Jerec, a Dark Jedi, leads his forces to Ruusan as the final step in his quest to locate the Valley of the Jedi. Jerec obliterates anything in his path, arriving at the Valley just before Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors. Aided by the planet's native population, Kyle and Jan challenge Jerec's Jedi and get ready for a final confrontation with Jerec. If Jerec is victorious over Kyle, he will be able to rule the galaxy using the limitless power within the Valley. Will Kyle's nascent Jedi abilities be sufficient to overcome Jerec?
The audio drama exhibits several inconsistencies when compared to the source novel, including:
- The assertion, repeated on numerous occasions, that the Mission to Danuta occurred eight years prior.
- The designation of the Crynyd as a Victory-class Star Destroyer.
