The period known as the Dark Jedi Conflict spanned from 188 BBY to 181 BBY, occurring within the Cularin system. The events began in 188 BBY when Kibh Jeen, a Padawan, was corrupted by the Sith fortress located on the planet Almas, causing him to succumb to the dark side of the Force. This corruption led Jeen to commit treachery, murdering his own Master, Qornah. Subsequently, Jeen enslaved the pirates residing in the system's asteroid belt, which precipitated the conflict. His initial act of aggression was a brutal assault targeting the floating cities of Genarius.
Jeen was among the first to realize that the Sith had survived the Seventh Battle of Ruusan, choosing to remain hidden from the galaxy's awareness by adhering to Darth Bane's Rule of Two. The Jedi dismissed Jeen's "mad rantings", a decision they would later come to regret.
Deemed too great a threat to be left alive, the Jedi Council dispatched a Jedi Knight and her Padawan with orders to hunt down and eliminate their former comrade. These Jedi assembled a fleet composed of vessels from various settlements and corporations within the system, which they then employed to overwhelm the pirate forces. By 181 BBY, they successfully neutralized the threat, though it necessitated killing Jeen.
To monitor the Sith fortress and prevent similar incidents, the Jedi Council situated on Coruscant authorized the construction of a Jedi academy on the opposite side of the planet.
