Sometime before the events of the Clone Wars, the Sith Lord known as Darth Momin deployed a superweapon, resulting in the destruction of an entire city. Momin's intention was to channel the Force into the device's core, eternally capturing the petrified visages of those who perished. However, the Jedi intervened during Momin's attempt, leading to the failure of his scheme and the annihilation of his physical form. Subsequently, Momin regarded the entire endeavor as a futile exercise.

With resources passed down from Darth Shaa and the assistance of devoted acolytes, the Sith Lord Darth Momin constructed the superweapon as an instrument in his pursuit of worthiness in the eyes of the dark side of the Force. Although it possessed the capability to obliterate a city completely, Momin envisioned a more artistic application: to infuse the Force into the weapon's mechanism and freeze the terrified expressions of his victims in time. Darth Momin transported his superweapon to a designated city in preparation for the execution of his grand design. However, the Jedi unexpectedly infiltrated the superweapon, their presence disrupting Momin's concentration. Consequently, Momin's opportunity slipped away, and the superweapon annihilated the city before he could achieve his desired temporal stasis. Upon the Jedi's confrontation with Momin, they discovered that his physical body had been reduced to ash, and his consciousness was confined within his mask. In his recounting of the incident to Darth Vader, Momin's consciousness dismissed the superweapon as a failed undertaking.
The debut appearance of Darth Momin's superweapon occurred in the 2018 canon comic book Darth Vader (2017) 22 through a flashback sequence. The comic's narrative was crafted by Charles Soule, with illustrations provided by Giuseppe Camuncoli.
