Darth Vua

Darth Vua was a male Yuuzhan Vong who, during his life, became a Sith apprentice within the One Sith. This individual, Vua, served as a slayer during the tumultuous times of the Yuuzhan Vong War.

Biography

This male Yuuzhan Vong, Darth Vua, held the rank of Slayer and participated actively as the Yuuzhan Vong War neared its conclusion. Like all those designated as Slayers, Vua's origins trace back to Force-sensitive Human slaves. These slaves were cultivated from tissue samples extracted from Jedi and subsequently modified by Yuuzhan Vong shapers. Their purpose was to function as elite warriors under the command of Supreme Overlord Shimrra Jamaane. At some point, Vua became bethrothed to another Yuuzhan Vong. Before the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar, which marked the war's end, Shimrra ordered Vua to pilot a Slayer ship carrying the deadly Alpha Red pathogen to the living planet Zonama Sekot. The mission's intent was to kill the sentient world. However, Zonama Sekot employed its gravitic abilities to repel the starfighter, causing Vua's mission to fail. Shortly thereafter, the Yuuzhan Vong surrendered during a decisive battle over Yuuzhan'tar, and the surviving Vong, including Vua's betrothed, were relocated to Zonama Sekot.

In the aftermath of the conflict, the galactic populace drew parallels between Vua and the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, a figure renowned for single-handedly confronting a weaponized world. Skywalker, of course, had destroyed the Death Star battle station during the Battle of Yavin in the Galactic Civil War. Following the Yuuzhan Vong War, the One Sith, a revived Sith Order operating on Korriban, captured the Slayer. He was then coerced into becoming a Sith apprentice and assumed the Sith title "Darth Vua." The former Slayer later crafted a personal holocron to document his thoughts on his involvement in the Yuuzhan Vong's defeat and his forced induction into the Sith.

Personality and traits

Darth Vua bore a sense of accountability for the Yuuzhan Vong's defeat. He attributed it to his failure to destroy Zonama Sekot, believing that this failure led to his people's surrender and resettlement on the living planet. He also disagreed with the comparisons between himself and Luke Skywalker, pointing out that Skywalker had achieved victory in his assault on the Death Star, while Vua had been unsuccessful in his attack on Zonama Sekot.

Vua also held the belief that the One Sith had attempted to instill Jeedai ideologies into his mind with the aim of breaking his spirit. However, he remained steadfast, refusing to succumb to their way of thinking.

Behind the scenes

The character of Darth Vua was initially introduced in the StarWars.com article titled Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare: Author's Cut, Part 12: Tales of the New Republic. This article was part of a series by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart that presented content intended for the reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare but ultimately omitted from the final publication. Vua was intended to be referenced in a brief excerpt from his personal holocron, presented from an in-universe perspective. The subsequent publication of this content in Author's Cut established it within Legends continuity. The excerpt alludes to the events of the novel The New Jedi Order: The Unifying Force, specifically the attempt by a Slayer ship to contaminate Zonama Sekot with Alpha Red. It identifies Vua as the pilot of that vessel. Urquhart envisioned this piece as a concluding segment for the Yuuzhan Vong section of the Essential Guide.
