Jeedai heresy

The Jeedai heresy represented a dissenting movement from the established True Way, and it played a crucial role in bringing about the conclusion of the Yuuzhan Vong War.

History

This heretical movement originated on Yavin 4 not long after the Yuuzhan Vong had seized control of the moon, forcing the New Jedi Order to retreat. While attempting to rescue Tahiri Veila, Anakin Solo encountered Vua Rapuung, a former Warrior who had been made to appear as a Shamed One by his former lover, Mezhan Kwaad. Kwaad was also holding Tahiri captive. Anakin and Vua formed an alliance to confront their shared adversary. In their final confrontation with Kwaad, she confessed to her role in Rapuung's shaming and inflicted a fatal wound on him, only to be decapitated by Tahiri shortly thereafter. Upon hearing the Jedi had redeemed Rapuung, other Shamed Ones started to hold the belief the Jedi could redeem all Shamed Ones. Despite the efforts of Warmaster Tsavong Lah to suppress news of the Vua Rapuung incident and the growing "heresy", it continued to spread throughout Yuuzhan Vong space among the Shamed Ones, lower-class workers, and slaves. By the time Shimrra Jamaane, the Supreme Overlord of the Yuuzhan Vong, arrived on Yuuzhan'tar, the heretics were disorganized, and some factions held conflicting interpretations of Rapuung's redemption. High Priest Jakan, the leader of the Priest caste, advocated for the heretics to be hunted down and eliminated, but Shimrra opted for a warning. However, Jakan inadvertently helped define some of their doctrine when he stated that Jaina Solo and Jacen Solo had no connection to Yun-Harla, the Trickster, and Yun-Yammka, the Slayer. Nevertheless, the groups remained divided in their beliefs.

The situation shifted dramatically after the Battle of Ebaq, when Nom Anor was compelled to flee Shimrra following the disastrous death of Warmaster Tsavong Lah. Recognizing an opportunity to potentially overthrow Shimrra, Anor adopted the identity of Yu'shaa, the Prophet, and began to shape their doctrine. Yu'shaa proclaimed that the Force represented the remaining exaltations of Yun-Yuuzhan, the Creator God of the Yuuzhan Vong, who perished when he created the Universe. Anor later secured an alliance with Ngaaluh, a priestess of Yun-Harla, who had learned of the heresy and believed it to be the Truth. Ngaaluh became Anor's informant within Shimrra's Citadel, providing false accusations against Anor's rivals in the intendant caste, with the intention of removing Shimrra's most capable prefects.

After several weeks, Shimrra uncovered her treachery and ordered her interrogation, but Ngaaluh took her own life. Deprived of his spy and witnessing a decline in the number of converts, Yu'shaa declared the planet Zonama Sekot to be the home of the Jedi and a new sanctuary for the Shamed Ones. Upon learning of Zonama Sekot and visiting it, Anor offered to destroy it for Shimrra in exchange for a reward. Anor's attempt to sabotage Zonama Sekot was unsuccessful. Despite Yu'shaa's disappearance, the heresy had gained momentum and taken on a life of its own. When Zonama Sekot materialized in the skies above Coruscant, the heretics believed their redemption was imminent and rebelled against Shimrra and the Elite. The resulting chaos proved crucial to the Galactic Alliance during the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar. Following the battle, the Shamed Ones were renamed the Extolled, and they finally achieved the equality they had sought on Zonama Sekot.
