Grasps of Death referred to a sizable, tentacled plant species that originated on the planet of Umbara, a world perpetually shrouded in night. These plants possessed tentacles, each being black and marked by bioluminescent ridges on a single side. These ridges exhibited a pink or red color, occasionally transitioning to gray before illuminating once more. These plants thrived within forests of Zabrak Spines, attaining sizes considerably exceeding that of a human. Renowned for their aggressive nature, survival after being ensnared by their tendrils was exceptionally rare.
The Grasps of Death made its debut in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Darkness on Umbara," the seventh installment of Season Four, which was originally broadcast on October 28, 2011. The species' formal identification occurred in the 2017 reference publication titled Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.
