Zabrak Spines were a form of plant life found on the perpetually dark planet of Umbara; they are classified as a species. These plants towered over a human in height, featuring a broad, black trunk from which numerous branches extended at the top. Every branch terminated in a red, bioluminescent point. Interestingly, the plant's name is shared with the Zabrak people, who originated from the planet Iridonia.
In the course of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion of the Grand Army of the Republic seized a ridge bordered by Zabrak Spines immediately after their arrival on Umbara. They then navigated through forests dominated by Zabrak Spines en route to the planet's capital, ultimately advancing along the primary road leading into the city, which was also adorned with these plants. Subsequent to retreating from their assault on the capital, the clone troopers shifted their focus to capturing an Umbaran installation encircled by Zabrak Spine forests.
The initial appearance of Zabrak Spines was in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Darkness on Umbara," the seventh episode of Season Four, which was broadcast on October 28, 2011. The identification of this species occurred in the 2017 reference work, Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.
