Destruction of Carida

The Annihilation of Carida transpired in 11 ABY. In this year, Kyp Durron utilized the Sun Crusher to obliterate Carida.

Genesis

Influenced by the spectral presence of the Sith Lord, Exar Kun, the fallen Jedi had previously decimated the Cauldron Nebula using the Sun Crusher, an Imperial superweapon. Earlier in his life, his brother Zeth was forcefully conscripted to serve as a stormtrooper. Consequently, Kyp journeyed to the Imperial Academy situated on Carida to ascertain his brother's destiny.

The Annihilation of Carida

Upon his arrival in the Carida system, Kyp established communication with Carida. He declared his intent to destroy the planet unless he was granted an audience with Ambassador Furgan. Furgan responded to the transmission, and Kyp demanded information regarding his brother's fate, granting Furgan a one-hour deadline for a response. Furgan, desiring the Sun Crusher for himself, instructed Lieutenant Dauren to deceive Kyp with a fabricated account of Zeth's demise. Simultaneously, approximately sixty TIE/LN starfighters were deployed with the objective of capturing him. Kyp downed a number of fighters, then allowed the rest to fire upon the impenetrable armor of his Sun Crusher, then retaliated by launching a resonance torpedo directly into the core of Caridan, the star within the system. Following this act, he granted Furgan a mere two hours for evacuation.

Furgan issued an evacuation order for Carida, prioritizing individuals based on rank, and subsequently departed aboard the Vendetta. However, the available vessels were insufficient to rescue a significant portion of the population, and the majority of Carida's inhabitants remained unaware of their impending destruction. Dauren, abandoned on the planet, desperately sought a means of escape. Discovering that Zeth was still present on Carida, he contacted Kyp, hoping the young Jedi would come to their rescue. However, as the Sun Crusher descended, Dauren assaulted Zeth with a plastisteel shard and attempted to enter the Sun Crusher, but he suffered severe burns from its intensely heated armor. Kyp executed another pass in an attempt to rescue his dying brother, but at that precise moment, the star exploded, resulting in the planet's destruction.

Aftermath

The annihilation claimed the lives of the majority of Carida's 25 million inhabitants. The despair resulting from the death of his brother further propelled Kyp towards the dark side.
