The last engagement during the Zaarin insurrection, which transpired in the Unknown Regions, was the Destruction of the Glory.
After the CR90 corvette Vorknkx was stolen, Grand Admiral Zaarin escaped to the Unknown Regions, making use of a functional cloaking device. Grand Admiral Thrawn, having placed a hidden homing beacon on the corvette, immediately pursued Zaarin. His fleet consisted of the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Grey Wolf, the Interdictor cruiser Corvus, and the Strike cruisers Ebolo and Daring. With the Interdictor's ability to prevent Zaarin from fleeing, Thrawn's goal was the total annihilation of his adversary and the termination of the Zaarin Insurrection.
Thrawn emerged from hyperspace with the Grey Wolf and Corvus positioned precisely to ensnare the Glory, while maintaining a safe distance from the range of Zaarin's numerous TIE Defenders. The two Strike cruisers under Thrawn's command exited hyperspace directly beside the Glory, launching their TIE Avengers squadrons, led by Maarek Stele. Simultaneously, the Grey Wolf deployed its own fighters and bombers to assault the Glory and Zaarin's other capital ships. The Strike cruisers focused their attack on the Glory, while the Grey Wolf remained further back, protecting the Corvus.
In an attempt to break free, Zaarin divided his TIE Defenders into multiple groups, tasking one with eliminating the TIE Avengers, another with destroying the strike cruisers, and a third with taking out the Interdictor and potentially the Grey Wolf. The two strike cruisers, being in close proximity to the Glory, were quickly overwhelmed by a concentrated proton rocket barrage from the Defenders. While the fighters did manage to take out some Avengers, Maarek Stele's superior piloting skills resulted in their destruction. The TIE Defenders that targeted the Corvus were intercepted and destroyed, but not before inflicting some damage.
Lacking his fighter screen, the Glory was quickly struck by a number of rocket and torpedo hits from the TIE bombers, prompting Zaarin to evacuate the ship using transports, shuttles, and the Vorknkx. While the shuttles and transports were destroyed, the Vorknkx activated its cloaking device, evaded the fighters, and jumped into hyperspace.
Thrawn's victory over Zaarin may have had unforeseen consequences. Zaarin's emphasis on advanced starfighters led to the Empire using fewer of them, giving Rebel fighters a significant advantage in many battles. Furthermore, Thrawn's presence in the Unknown Regions meant he was absent from the Battle of Endor, preventing him from averting the Emperor's death. Gilad Pellaeon would later speculate on what might have occurred had Thrawn been present at Endor.
Thrawn remained in the Unknown Regions, reinforcing the Imperial presence, until his return in 8 ABY. The Grey Wolf and Corvus were never seen again, presumably joining the forces of the Empire of the Hand.
