Destruction of the Scythe convoy

The Scythe convoy's annihilation was a hit and fade style of assault. The Alliance to Restore the Republic executed this attack on an Imperial convoy during 3 ABY.

Contextual Information

After the Alliance suffered a defeat on Hoth, Admiral [Nammo]'s Defiance Task Force was in a precarious position, needing to rejoin the main Alliance fleet without detection or destruction by the Corrupter Task Force. To begin, Nammo devised a plan to obliterate an Imperial supply convoy. This convoy was spearheaded by the Strike-class medium cruiser named Scythe. The intention was to spread Imperial forces thin, giving the Defiance and its associated task force more room to maneuver.

The Engagement

The BTL Y-wing starfighters of Green Group jumped through hyperspace to the convoy's last known coordinates and immediately initiated an attack on the convoy ships. Four pilots from Red Group, flying T-65 X-wing starfighters, including Ace Azzameen, provided escort. The Scythe responded by launching six TIE/LN starfighters in two waves to intercept the Y-wings. However, Red Group engaged the TIEs, which allowed Green Group to unleash a devastating missile attack on the convoy. Most of the ships were disabled, and the survivors prepared to jump to hyperspace to escape. The Scythe then launched its remaining six TIE fighters in three waves, destroying one Y-wing before being destroyed by Red Group. With the Strike cruiser damaged and fleeing, the convoy fell apart, and the Rebels returned to the Defiance.

Resulting Events

The convoy attack forced the Empire to concentrate more on convoy protection and remote installations, diverting resources from actively hunting the Rebels. Meanwhile, Admiral Nammo began planning a recon mission to gather intelligence on the Defiance's opposition.

Production Notes

While the convoy's destruction is certain, the fate of the Scythe is variable. It may survive, be forced to retreat, or be destroyed, depending on the player's actions.
