Dhas Fenoep Vedij, a male Human belonging to the esteemed Vedij family, began his career as a naval officer within the ranks of the Galactic Empire. His service continued until he spearheaded a rebellion on the Far Orbit. Following this act, he transitioned into the roles of a privateer and a commander for the Rebel Alliance. Throughout the Galactic Civil War, his leadership was characterized by a blend of detached formality and a fierce, predatory combativeness. This demeanor could have been shaped by his experiences during his time with the Empire, or it might have stemmed from his aristocratic Coruscanti background and naval training, which may have fostered a subconscious belief that his position of command was akin to an inherited right.
Dhas Vedij was the older of Ronnan Tyla Vedij's sons. His father was an admiral and a hereditary Baron, continuing a family legacy of naval officers. Dhas followed in his father's footsteps, joining the Imperial Navy and eventually achieving the rank of commander. He then became the Operations Officer on the escort frigate Far Orbit, serving as second-in-command to Captain Vocis Kenit. While Captain Kenit was recognized by the Empire as a skilled strategist and an effective leader in the suppression of pirates in the Outer Rim, he was also known for his harsh disciplinary methods. His rise to command was largely due to his unwavering support for the New Order, which soured Vedij's view of the Imperial system.
Vedij's growing aversion to the Empire intensified shortly before the Battle of Yavin when his father, a critic of the Empire's politically motivated changes to the military, died under dubious circumstances. His younger brother, Elon, a TIE/LN starfighter pilot, was assigned to the Far Orbit. Both brothers suspected this reassignment was a calculated move by the Empire to facilitate their elimination.
However, Captain Kenit's inherent brutality seemingly overtook the threat of state-sponsored terror. He recklessly sacrificed the entire TIE fighter complement of the Far Orbit in a pointless, glory-seeking assault against the Silent Blades pirate group. This resulted in the death of Elon and all of his fellow TIE pilots. This act, along with Kenit's other merciless actions and the news of Alderaan's destruction, gave Commander Vedij sufficient support among the crew to successfully launch a mutiny.
After seizing control of the frigate, and abandoning Kenit and his loyalists in escape pods, Vedij made the decision to move from the Outer Rim towards the Core Worlds, believing that a single Imperial frigate could inflict significant damage in that region. After docking at StarForge Station to acquire a new crew, he made contact with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Consequently, the Far Orbit became a privateer operating under the Rebel banner as part of an experimental project conceived by Ral'Rai Muvunc.
Under the leadership of Vedij, the Far Orbit embarked on a raiding campaign through the Darpa and Bormea sectors. During this time, they captured Imperial Advisor Coh Veshiv and engaged in several battles against Imperial forces, including a task force now under the command of Captain Kenit, who was tasked with hunting down the renegade vessel.
As a privateer, Vedij's most notable accomplishment was arguably the capture of the treasure-laden Star Galleon Emperor's Will.
Following the mutiny's initial stages, the adventures of Dhas Vedij and his ship in The Far Orbit Project are intentionally designed to be open-ended, presenting multiple possibilities at crucial junctures. Accordingly, it is proposed that Captain Vedij could either join the Alliance as a regular officer, continue his career as a privateer, retire from spacefaring and settle on a remote planet, or perish while saving his ship during the capture of the Emperor's Will. More unconventional options involve portraying the withdrawn, aggressive Captain as a dangerous madman, or revealing him to be an Imperial agent tasked with infiltrating and destabilizing the Alliance.
