Storyline Summary

R2-D2 and C-3PO are now employed as diplomatic messengers. Upon their arrival at the royal residence on the planet Sooma, they witness King Zornog intensely conversing via HoloNet with King Gokus of Alzar. Prince Plooz, King Gokus's son, had secretly boarded a freighter bound for Sooma, prompting his father to demand his immediate return. Meanwhile, on Alzar, General Sludd and his subordinate conspire to prevent Plooz's return, hoping to instigate conflict between the two planets. Back on Sooma, Prince Plooz playfully snatches King Zornog's scarf, inadvertently causing him to choke. R2-D2 intervenes, rescuing the King by using his mechanical arm to lift Plooz. King Zornog expresses his gratitude, and C-3PO volunteers to further assist by accompanying Prince Plooz back to his home planet.

During their journey to Alzar, the droids and Prince Plooz are ambushed by General Sludd's fleet. General Sludd reveals his plan to ignite a war to facilitate his conquest of both worlds. The droids attempt to escape, but as R2-D2 prepares for hyperspace jump, Prince Plooz tampers with the ship's antimatter controls. He accidentally destabilizes the anti-matter pods, and with electron torpedoes closing in, the droids try to activate the hyperdrive without sufficient anti-matter power. As the torpedoes strike, the ship tries to enter hyperspace, but instead, the droids and Prince Plooz find their vessel adrift in an empty void.

A tear in the darkness appears, and R2-D2 pilots the ship through it, resulting in a time warp to the future. Reacting to C-3PO's panic, Prince Plooz locates an escape pod and ejects from the ship, hoping to return home. Instead, he lands on the moon of Endor, where the Ewoks are startled by the sight of his escape pod descending from the sky. The droids follow the escape pod, landing on Endor to search for Prince Plooz.

In the Ewok village, Chief Chirpa seeks guidance from Logray regarding the strange object. Logray consults the fortune stones, which predict a bright flash of light bringing good fortune to the Ewoks that day. Coincidentally, that day marks the scheduled signing of a peace treaty with the Duloks. Logray instructs Chirpa to investigate the object from the sky, and a search party is formed. The search party includes Wicket, who discovers the escape pod in the swamp just as Prince Plooz emerges. The Ewoks believe Plooz is a "star child," a symbol of good luck. They feed Plooz honey and escort him back to their village. Before getting far, Wicket and Princess Kneesaa encounter the droids, whom they perceive as demons. The Ewoks attempt to flee, but inadvertently stumble into a Dulok trap.
