Drokko Kira was a Human male who hailed from the capital city of Iziz on Onderon. He was the progenitor of Beast-Lord Modon Kira and the grandfather of Oron Kira. Around the year 4050 BBY, Kira dared to challenge the established power of Freedon Nadd, the Dark Lord of the Sith who had proclaimed himself King of Onderon many years prior and imparted the ways of the dark side of the Force to his successors. As a consequence of his defiance, Kira was exiled from Iziz and suffered a wound that would never heal. For the next half-century, Kira remained silent, eventually finding a place among the Beast Riders, a band of outcasts from Iziz who waged war against the city. In 4000 BBY, Kira was present at the binding ceremony uniting his grandson, Oron, with Princess Galia, the heir to the Onderonian throne. This ceremony faced disruption by three Jedi—the brothers Ulic and Cay Qel-Droma, along with the Twi'lek Tott Doneeta—who were recruited by Modon to combat the dark side's influence in Iziz. While Ulic Qel-Droma initially favored a peaceful resolution, Drokko Kira, breaking his long silence, questioned whether he would fight alongside the Beast Riders should the peace talks fail, to which Qel-Droma agreed. The peace negotiations ultimately collapsed, leading to a showdown in Iziz where the Beast Riders emerged victorious.
In the years leading up to the Great Sith War, Drokko Kira, a Human male, was a resident of Onderon. Specifically, he lived in the walled capital city of Iziz during a time when the royal family was constantly engaged in warring with the exiled Beast Riders beyond the city's walls. Back in 4400 BBY, a fallen Jedi Knight who became a Sith Lord, namely Freedon Nadd, arrived on Onderon and brought the world under his control. He then crowned himself king and passed down the teachings of the dark side of the Force to his descendants. Around 4050 BBY, Kira rose to challenge Nadd's legacy. Consequently, he was branded a criminal and forced out of Iziz, suffering a wound that would never heal. For the next fifty years, Kira remained silent. He eventually joined the Beast Riders and fathered a son, Modon Kira, who would become a highly respected and powerful Beast-Lord. Modon, in turn, had a son named Oron Kira. Oron eventually fell in love with Princess Galia, the heir to the Onderonian throne. Galia reciprocated his feelings, and in 4000 BBY, she journeyed to Fortress Kira to marry him.
Drokko Kira, along with Modon, was present at the Binding Ceremony of Oron Kira and Galia. However, the celebration was interrupted by the arrival of three Jedi Knights—the brothers Ulic and Cay Qel-Droma, and the Twi'lek Tott Doneeta—who had been dispatched by Onderonian Queen Amanoa to retrieve Galia. They released Galia upon learning she was there of her own volition and that Modon had welcomed them to the banquet. Oron informed the Jedi about the dark side tendencies of the Onderonian monarchy, and Modon requested their assistance in fighting against them. Ulic Qel-Droma preferred a peaceful resolution and proposed a mission to achieve it. Suddenly, Drokko Kira emerged from his silence and spoke for the first time in decades, asking Qel-Droma if he would join the fight against the dark side should the peace mission fail. Qel-Droma agreed. The peace mission failed, and Modon's Beast Rider army triumphed over Queen Amanoa's forces in the decisive Battle of Iziz, bringing an end to the reign of the dark side on Onderon.
In his younger years, Drokko Kira displayed considerable courage, openly challenging the legacy of Freedon Nadd that held Onderon in its grasp. However, following his banishment, Kira withdrew into a state of silence, remaining speechless for fifty years. Yet, when the prospect of overthrowing the dark side–worshiping monarchy in Iziz resurfaced, Kira stirred and spoke for the first time since his exile.
Drokko Kira's first appearance was in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Ulic Qel-Droma and the Beast Wars of Onderon, the initial story arc of the Tales of the Jedi comic book series, penned by Tom Veitch and published in 1993. Kira appears in the second and final issue of the arc, playing a relatively minor role. In this appearance he is illustrated by Chris Gossett. According to the Star Wars Insider 26 article Straight from the Horse's Mouth: A Guide to the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Universe, Part 1, Kira was exiled from Iziz in 4048 BBY, while the Tales of the Jedi comic places his exile at 4,050 BBY. Given that Insider 26 contradicts numerous other established dates, this article prioritizes the comic's accuracy.
