A DSS-02 regional shield functioned as a type of deflector shield generator that the Batonn insurgents employed on Batonn. During the battle that occurred there, the insurgents rapidly cycled the shield on and off, which afforded them the opportunity to unleash Ion cannons against Imperial forces. Following Governor Arihnda Pryce's successful extraction of her parents from their residence located within the shield's area of effect, she triggered explosives that Agent Gudry had planted, doing so sooner than planned after he realized Pryce's actual goals, and died after being shot. The shield contained the resulting blast, leading to the complete obliteration of the surrounding zone, causing substantial civilian deaths and the destruction of the insurgent group.
