Gudry

Gudry, who also went by the alias Mattai Daw, was a human male who functioned as an agent for the ISB within the ranks of the Galactic Empire. Under the command of Colonel Wullf Yularen, Gudry accompanied Governor Arihnda Pryce on a clandestine assignment. This mission involved planting explosive devices at the base of the Batonn insurgents during the Siege of the Creekpath Mining and Refining complex. Following a dispute about evacuating her family, Pryce murdered Gudry. To mask her involvement in his demise, she triggered the detonation of the Creekpath Mining and Refining complex, resulting in the deaths of both the insurgents and a large number of civilians.

Biography

Undercover on Batonn

During the Imperial Era, Gudry served as an agent of the Imperial Security Bureau. [Arihnda Pryce](/article/arihnda_pryce] reluctantly agreed to let Gudry join her inside the Creekpath Mining and Refining complex at the urging of Colonel Wullf Yularen. Gudry, using the alias "Mattai," was tasked with scouting the insurgents' defenses and planting explosives while pretending to look for a friend who supposedly worked at the mine as a weapons electronics expert. Pryce and Yularen traveled from the planet Dennogra to Batonn. Admiral Thrawn gave a hesitant approval for Pryce and Gudry's undertaking.

Pryce and Gudry successfully gained entry into the mining complex using forged identification. After meeting with her parents at their Batonn residence, Pryce convinced her father, Talmoor, to accompany her and Gudry into the mine under the guise of rescuing Gudry's friend. Realizing Gudry's plan to destroy the mining complex, Pryce acted as though she was assisting him. However, she decided to plan an escape and borrowed her mother's comm. Pryce's primary concern was the safety and well-being of her parents.

Pryce's "betrayal"

With her father's help, Pryce, Talmoor, and Gudry gained access to the mine. Once inside, Pryce pretended to be ill and snuck into a parked speeder truck. By mimicking her mother's voice, Pryce successfully summoned Gudry and Talmoor back, claiming that Talmoor was unwell. Arihnda managed to bring her father home, leaving Gudry to search for his friend on his own.

Gudry returned before Pryce could leave with her parents, criticizing her for not aiding in his mission. Gudry also revealed that his mission was not a rescue operation but a search and destroy mission to place bombs near the explosives cache and the shield generator. When Pryce begged him to take her parents with them, Gudry refused, stating that he couldn't risk them drawing attention to him. After a struggle, Pryce fatally shot him, resulting in his death.

Legacy

Before departing with her parents, Pryce discovered Gudry's comm, which held the two triggers for the shield and explosives cache bombs. Pryce used the trigger in the explosives cache to destroy the Mining Complex, but she avoided detonating the shield bomb. While Pryce's actions prevented the explosion from spreading, many civilians and insurgents within the complex perished.

After the bombing, Pryce asserted that Gudry had detonated himself to prevent capture by the rebels. Although the Imperial authorities accepted Pryce's story, Colonel Yularen, along with Thrawn, doubted that Gudry would have intentionally destroyed the explosives cache.

Personality and traits

Agent Gudry was a man of human descent, characterized by fair skin, blue eyes, and black hair. He possessed exceptional skills in undercover operations and a proficiency with explosives. Gudry was prepared to eliminate numerous insurgents and guerrillas to end the siege of the Creekpath mining complex. Gudry's objectives clashed with the strong-willed Arihnda Pryce, who refused to abandon her parents. Although Gudry was capable in combat, Pryce ultimately killed him.

Behind the scenes

Timothy Zahn's 2017 novel Thrawn marked the initial appearance of Agent Gudry. This novel served as a rebooted Canonical origin story for the character of the same name. Arihnda Pryce and Thrawn's perspectives primarily convey the majority of his dialogue.
