Stun baton
A stun baton, also called a shock baton or energy baton, was a close-quarters non-lethal weapon that used a strong electrical shock to disable living targets.
Description
The handle of a stun baton contained a power pack. This pack activated high-density cells, which generated a stunning electrical charge. This design made the weapon somewhat cumbersome. The power cells had a lifespan of three hours before needing to be recharged. To effectively immobilize a target, the user needed to make physical contact, either by touching or striking them.
Law enforcement agencies frequently employed these batons because they preferred incapacitation over lethal force.
Some fighters would incorporate them into hand-to-hand fighting to amplify their offensive capabilities.
More sophisticated versions of these weapons included devices like the Bothan stun stick, the Chuka, the Vulkar shock stick, the Rakatan Battle Wand, the Gand silencer, the Gand discharger, and the Exchange negotiator.
History
Its use has been traced back to the era of the Jedi Civil War.
Sector Rangers and police forces used the stun baton as a means of controlling crowds. The 501-Z police droid was also commonly equipped with a stun baton. Guards and security personnel, such as those in the Corellian Security Force and the Espos of the Corporate Sector, as well as security forces working for trade organizations like the Metatheran Cartel or even criminal syndicates, also used them. Conversely, slaver groups like the Mytaranor Slaving Council utilized stun batons with much more deadly effects.
Galactic Alliance Infantry Troopers also carried the stun baton as a secondary melee weapon.
Rumor has it that during the Galactic Civil War, a Geonosian Bio-Lab, allegedly hidden on Yavin 4, contained materials for constructing stun batons of exceptional power.
