An energy slingshot was a compact, wrist-worn weapon designed to launch non-deadly projectiles known as energy pellets. Its legality was widespread, permitted on the majority of planets across the galaxy. Notably, Ezra Bridger, a young, orphaned individual from Lothal, employed an energy slingshot.
Often favored by pranksters and younger individuals of various species, this wrist-mounted slingshot worked by aiming and pulling back on an energy-charged cup. Upon release, this cup launched a concussive burst of energy effective at close range. Being a non-lethal option, its ownership was generally legal throughout the galaxy. Unlike blaster fire, the projectiles fired from it were affected by gravity, resulting in a curved trajectory.
These slingshots could be altered to emit only light, thus activating sensors.
Before 18 BBY, the Graf family engaged in a game utilizing modified versions of these slingshots. Later, Milo Graf viewed a holographic recording of this game following his parents' capture by the forces of the Galactic Empire.
Around 5 BBY, the Lothal orphan Ezra Bridger was in possession of a slingshot. He utilized it during the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire before constructing his Jedi lightsaber. A Xexto crafted it, and its origin remained a mystery. Bridger continued to wear the slingshot on his left wrist until the period between the Siege of Lothal and a mission to Seelos. He would later attach the slingshot to the hilt of his first lightsaber.
The energy slingshot makes its first appearance in Star Wars Rebels during its initial season and the Season 2 premiere, Star Wars Rebels: The Siege of Lothal. For the remainder of the series, Ezra no longer uses the energy slingshot, and instead is seen with a wrist comm.
