Ertegas, an agriworld situated within the Anoat sector of the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories, featured at least one moon. On this moon, the Galactic Empire was actively extracting resources from a crystal mine. The Trade Spine League showed no interest in Ertegas until the Empire established the Iron Blockade. This blockade, intended to suppress news of the Empire's defeat at the Battle of Endor by the Alliance to Restore the Republic from reaching the sector's inhabitants, resulted in an increase in the value of foodstuff. However, malfunctioning droids began to endanger the Ertegan population, disrupting harvests.
The Smuggler dispatched one crew member to negotiate an agreement with Ertegan traders on behalf of the League. Simultaneously, they sent two other crew members to aid the locals with the droid problem, with crystals offered as compensation.
The planet Ertegas was initially conceived for the Star Wars Legends web article called "Galactic Gazetteer: Hoth and the Greater Javin." This article was a collaborative effort by Jason Fry, Daniel Wallace, and Craig Robert Carey for Wizards of the Coast, and it was published in 2004. Ertegas became part of canon through its inclusion in the mobile game Star Wars: Uprising. Kabam developed this game for iOS and Android devices, and it was launched in 2015.
