Espinar, a planet situated within the Core Worlds, was the location where Lyra Erso headed up a survey group; they found and charted a cave network that suggested an abundance of unusual crystalline resources. It was on Espinar that she initially saw a man named Galen Erso, who eventually married her, marking their initial encounter. She acted as his guide when he directed a team in the field researching minerals. Lyra and Galen were unsuccessful in their search for kyber crystals. While imprisoned on the world Vallt, Lyra remembered her and Erso's first meeting on Espinar. Soon after his return from the world, Erso encountered Orson Krennic, surprisingly presenting his new partner to Krennic for the very first time.
