FA-2PO functioned as a protocol droid during the era of the Galactic Civil War. He served as a member of the crew aboard the Jawa vehicle known as Sand Crawler 345.
During the year 1 ABY, the Jawas operating Sand Crawler 345 came into possession of a shipment that had originated from Tansarii Point Station and arrived on Tatooine. The sandcrawler made a stop at Tosche Station, which was located close to Anchorhead, with the intention of selling goods to the warehouse manager named Janus. Subsequently, it visited Zef Ando at the Lars homestead. After its departure from the farm, Sand Crawler 345 suffered an attack by Tusken Raiders in the Western Dune Sea, resulting in its destruction. Some Jawas, along with FA-2PO, were able to escape the wreckage and sought shelter in the vicinity. Because the cargo from Tansarii Point Station was of interest to both Imperial Commander Barrezz and Rebel Captain Bastra, independent spacefarers were in search of the sandcrawler at the time of the attack. FA-2PO's distress signal was received by these spacers, who then made their way to the survivors of Sand Crawler 345. The spacers engaged the Tusken Raiders in combat and successfully rescued FA-2PO and the Jawas.
FA-2PO appeared as a non-player character within the 2003 video game titled Star Wars Galaxies. This game was a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and distributed by LucasArts, before its servers were shut down on December 15, 2011. FA-2PO was integrated into the game as part of the "Legacy Quest" through the implementation of "Publish 25," also known as the "New Game Enhancements," which occurred on November 15, 2005.
