Luke Skywalker presses forward on his journey through the galaxy, pursuing hints to understand what caused Jacen Solo's descent into darkness, hoping to restore the Jedi Order's reputation. After spending time with the enigmatic Aing-Tii monks, Luke and his son Ben haven't found solid answers. They now suspect that the truths they seek lie hidden within the dangerous Maw Cluster. In this isolated area filled with black holes, the Mind Walkers reside. Their ability to separate their minds from their bodies and merge with the Force is both alluring and potentially deadly. However, this might be Luke's sole path to uncovering the truth.
Back on Coruscant, tensions are rising between Natasi Daala, the Galactic Alliance Chief of State, and the Jedi Order. The Jedi are furious about Valin and Jysella Horn's carbonite freezing following their strange mental breakdowns. They're determined to challenge Daala's strict methods, go against Council Master Kenth Hamner's hesitant leadership, and handle the growing madness among their members themselves. As Han and Leia Solo, along with their daughter Jaina, join the effort to shield more affected Jedi from arrest, Jedi healers are urgently seeking a cure for the rapidly spreading illness. Unbeknownst to them, Chief Daala is preparing to strike.
Similarly, Luke and Ben, deep within the Maw Cluster and pushing their Force abilities to the limit, are unaware of how close they are to a Sith team aiming to eliminate the Skywalkers. They're also nearing a dark-side energy source of immense power and hunger, as well as a coming battle between Force users where only one Master—good or evil—will survive.
