Order of Shasa

The Order of Shasa represented a cult of Force-sensitive individuals from the Selkath species, native to the planet of Manaan. They were deceived into serving Darth Sidious during his reign as head of the Galactic Empire.

History

This group, the Order of Shasa, derived its designation from a Force-attuned Selkath named Shasa. Sith figures had attracted Shasa, alongside her companions, to the Sith Embassy situated on Manaan. The Sith intended to utilize these impressionable Selkath to topple the existing Manaan government. Their plan was to replace it with young Force trainees who were easily controlled. However, Revan exposed this scheme, successfully convincing the Selkath of the Sith's malevolent nature. The Sith's actions, which threatened Manaan's neutrality, were subsequently penalized through limitations placed on their kolto shipments.

Following the conclusion of the Jedi Civil War, Shasa quickly understood that for Manaan to maintain true neutrality in the future, the Selkath could not depend on the Jedi any more than they depended on the Sith. Given that Force-sensitive Selkath still required instruction and guidance to cultivate their abilities and resist the lure of the dark side, Shasa and the other Selkath trained by the Sith formulated a doctrine centered on peace and defense. This led to the creation of an organization initially known simply as the Order. The Order established a clandestine base within an abandoned mining station situated in the Hrakert Rift. However, with its small number of members formally educated in the ways of the Force by the Sith, the Order promptly recognized that temptations from the dark side posed a constant threat. Those who had received Sith training found it challenging to dismiss their initial lessons, and the Order of Shasa grappled to resolve these internal conflicts by pursuing a path of balance between the light and dark sides. With the Sith's deception still fresh in her mind, Shasa initially avoided seeking assistance from the Jedi or any other Force-using tradition. Nevertheless, when proponents of the dark side made significant advances or began to sway new members of the Order, she did not hesitate to seek counsel from a Jedi she trusted, or from another Force tradition with a positive reputation, such as the Jal Shey.

Even after Manaan's prominence in galactic affairs diminished, the Order persisted. During the Galactic War, the Order of Shasa played a defensive role for an underwater laboratory where experiments were being conducted with Rakata technology. The goal of these experiments was to create invincible supersoldiers for the Order of Revan's Infinite Army, under the direction of Revanites Darth Arkous and Colonel Rian Darok. Strike teams from the Republic and the Empire, dispatched by Theron Shan and Lana Beniko, fought their way through the Order's adepts. Any surviving members likely perished when the Revanites deliberately destroyed the base.

By the era of the Galactic Empire, the Order boasted a membership of over two hundred adepts. This number was considered remarkably high given the relatively small size of the Selkath population. Despite their numbers, they provided little resistance when the Empire subjugated their world.

Strangely, many of them managed to evade the Empire for several years, until a mysterious individual contacted them sometime before the Battle of Endor. This heavily cloaked Human with a rebreather, Darth Vader, provided them with detailed information about the guards, offering encouragement and instructions to retaliate against the resort that had been constructed on Manaan during Imperial rule. Two hundred of the Order's most skilled members effortlessly navigated through Ahto's waste disposal system, swiftly eliminating the guards and forcing them into retreat. However, a peculiar bloodlust overcame the Order members, leading them to brutally attack the resort guests in a shark-like frenzy. Once the rage subsided, the Order members were horrified by their actions. Yet, the enigmatic Jedi with the dark helmet and deep voice assured them that their revenge would strengthen them, and that they would now serve the Emperor.

Practices and Abilities

The Order of Shasa considered the safety and well-being of the Selkath people to be their top priority. The Order's storytellers passed on knowledge of the planet's history to younger generations, reinforcing the Selkath's dedication to Manaan. Each adept would be assigned to a master, with the duration of training ranging from several months to several years.

A sword known as the fira held a similar significance to the Order as the lightsaber did to the Jedi. Each fira was unique, crafted by the trainee using rare materials as part of their training. These materials were sourced from the old Hrakert Rift station, which Revan had destroyed in the past. The raw elements were shaped and tempered using volcanic vents on the ocean floor, making the process both dangerous and challenging. The construction of a fira signified full initiation into the Order, a ritual known as the Rite of Fira.

Driven by the Sith's deception during the Jedi Civil War, the Order of Shasa developed a potent Force-based ability to detect falsehoods. They mastered a mind-altering power known as the Progenitor's Call, which could disrupt their enemies' actions. The Order was also recognized for a telekinetic ability they termed a waveform, which allowed them to manipulate environmental particles to amplify the impact of their telekinetic attacks.
