Force-imbued sword

A sword empowered by the Force, alternatively referred to as Je'daii swords or Jedi katanas, represented a type of edged weapon employed around 36,453 BBY by the ancient adherents to the Ashla and Bogan philosophies within the ancient Je'daii Order.

The concept of the Force-imbued blade originated on Tython within the workshops of Vur Tepe by the ancient Je'daii Order, eventually becoming the Order's defining weapon until the introduction of the Forcesaber around 25,793 BBY by the Force Hound known as Xesh. Drawing from the technological foundations of the Forcesaber, the Je'daii Order would subsequently engineer the Protosaber, which then became the standard weapon for the order around 5000 BBY. Nonetheless, the Force-imbued blade saw extensive usage throughout the Despot War, the Force Wars fought between the followers of the Ashla and Bogan, and leading up to the First Great Schism around 24,500 BBY.

Typically, each blade was crafted by a Je'daii upon progressing beyond the rank of Padawan and attaining the status of a Je'daii Journeyer or Je'daii Ranger within the Order. Despite its common name, these blades were not exclusively utilized by the Jedi, as they were also widely employed by adherents of the Bogan during the Force Wars, as well as by the soldiers of the Legions of Lettow.

Description

Followers of Ashla and Bogan, wielding Force-imbued blades of many different hues.

Force-imbued blades were characterized by their solid metal construction, negating the necessity for an external power source, and exhibiting a radiant glow emanating from the Force that permeated their structure. This luminescence could manifest in various forms, including lightning-like patterns, blade discoloration, a fiery appearance, or even the complete absence of any visual indication. Infused with the Force, these blades possessed extraordinary strength and sharpness, enabling them to effortlessly cleave through a multitude of materials. Furthermore, Force-imbued blades were capable of inflicting damage and destruction upon dark side spirits.

Creation

The methods and practices employed by the Tythonian Je'daii in the creation of Force-imbued blades were preserved and implemented by the Legions of Lettow at the Chatos Academy.

An aspiring smith would select a bar of high-carbon metal, generally durasteel (although subsequently, almost exclusively the remarkably resilient and virtually unbreakable Madog steel forged by the esteemed metallurgist Tem Madog), and would shape the bar into a blade through hammering; during the forging process, the Force was channeled into the blade, thereby modifying the metal's molecular structure into a strengthened lattice. This lattice both fortified the blade and honed its edge, while also readying it for the subsequent stage.

Following the forging of the blade, the initiate would insert a crystal into the hilt and then integrate the lattices of the crystal with those of the blade—a process achieved by immersing oneself deeply within the Force and then meditating upon the blade and crystal until the blade, crystal, and smith became unified. Once the lattices were harmonized, the wielder would channel energy through the crystal and into the blade until it began to radiate with an aura of energy, signifying the permanent infusion of the Force into the blade.

The forging procedure was physically and mentally demanding. Smiths faced the potential risk of shattering the blade, crystal, or both during energy channeling, whether due to flaws in the lattices or their own insufficient skill.
