Force binding, which is also referred to as Force containment, represented a Force power belonging to the light side of the Force. This power granted its users the capability to restrain the impact that a dark side of the Force artifact exerted on the area surrounding it. To ensure the secure transportation of artifacts, practitioners within the Jedi Order employed binding rituals. Notably, in 232 BBY, Jedi Master Cohmac Vitus, along with Jedi Knight Orla Jareni, and Jedi Padawan Reath Silas, harnessed Force binding on a collection of four idols that they located aboard the Amaxine space station.
The 2021 young-adult book, The High Republic: Into the Dark, authored by Claudia Gray, marked the initial introduction of Force binding.
