Fral represented a kind of food that was sometimes prepared alongside roasted cushnip. Approximately three decades prior to the Battle of Endor, the Artiodac chef known as Strono Tuggs created fral and baked cushnip at the castle owned by the pirate Maz Kanata.
The prop known as fral debuted in the 2015 movie Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Although the film didn't name it, it received its name in Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book by Pablo Hidalgo that was released the day after the film's debut.
