Frija Torlock (droid)

Frija Torlock, a Human replica droid (HRD) of the female variety, was one of a pair of droids built to resemble the actual Frija and her father, Governor Torlock.

Biography

Scientist Massad Thrumble was the creator of Frija and her "father". These droids were commissioned by Governor Torlock as a safety measure in case the Alliance to Restore the Republic launched an attack on Corulag. However, the threat came not from the Rebellion, but from Torlock's own daughter, who plotted to seize control of Corulag with her lover, Admiral Droon. To escape, Torlock activated the two HRDs, and while the droids served as distractions, he fled the planet.

As time passed, the two droids found themselves separated, and Admiral Droon's forces captured the droid of Torlock. Unaware of these events, the Frija HRD, assuming the identity of the real Frija, contacted Droon to inquire about her father's disappearance. Droon instructed the droid to stay put and dispatched his men to apprehend her. He envisioned a scenario where Black Sun assassins would assassinate the droid and a hologram of her "father," framing the Rebels for the incident, thus clearing his path to the Governor's position.

However, Droon had not accounted for the intervention of Darth Vader and his operative, Wrenga Jixton. Jix eliminated the assassins, rescuing Frija. With the droid's assistance, he exposed the conspiracy, freed Frija's droid father, and apprehended Admiral Droon. Jix transported his prisoner and the two droids back to Coruscant. After refueling their ship, Jix advised them to seek refuge on a remote planet and remain there. Frija expressed her gratitude to Jix, and the pair departed for the Outer Rim, eventually settling on the icy world of Hoth.

On Hoth, Frija and her father established a life for themselves, but Frija's loneliness grew, and she yearned for a male companion. When Luke Skywalker and C-3PO crash-landed on Hoth, Frija initially recalled her father's instructions to avoid organics and left them to their fate. However, her loneliness prompted her to reconsider, and she ultimately saved the pair. Her "father" was enraged and demanded that she dismantle 3PO for parts and cast Luke back into the cold. Luke, unwilling to freeze to death, prevented Frija's father from expelling him, using his lightsaber to disarm him. Luke then confined Frija's father in a storage closet and began devising a plan to escape Hoth.

Luke's communicator had been damaged in the crash, but he intended to combine the droid's communicator with his own to create a functioning device. Frija agreed to assist him, and the two set off on tauntauns towards Luke's wrecked ship, leaving C-3PO to guard Torlock. However, Torlock's concealed weaponry allowed him to break free from C-3PO's watch, and he pursued his daughter to prevent Luke from contacting the Rebel Alliance.

Frija dies in Luke Skywalker's arms.

Upon reaching the crash site, Luke and Frija successfully repaired the communicator, and Frija decided that she wanted to leave Hoth with Luke. However, before Luke could activate the communicator, Torlock appeared and threatened Luke with a blaster. Upon learning of the repaired communicator, Torlock took aim at the device, but his shot went astray. Torlock's blaster bolt struck his "daughter" in the back, causing severe damage to her internal systems.

Overcome with distress, Torlock sought revenge by attempting to kill Luke Skywalker. Left with no alternative, Luke was compelled to strike down the deranged droid, discovering that Frija and her father were both HRDs. Before her systems shut down, Frija thanked Luke for giving her life meaning. Luke buried the two droids on Hoth before the Millennium Falcon arrived to rescue him and C-3PO.

Later, Luke Skywalker encountered the mind-witch S'ybll, who was masquerading as the real Frija. Luke initially mistook her for the droid version until the deception was revealed and the witch was defeated.
