Imperial Service

Wrenga Jixton

Born on the planet Corellia, Wrenga Jixton later enlisted in the Imperial Academy of Carida. His training led him to become a combat instructor for new Imperial recruits. Subsequently, in 8 BBY, Jix was assigned to a mission alongside Darth Vader that involved the sterilization of Falleen, resulting in the deaths of 200,000 Falleen citizens. Due to his unsatisfactory performance during this mission, Jix faced a court-martial and was sentenced to work in the spice mines of Kessel. After a daring escape, Jix sought refuge on the isolated world of Aridus, where he developed a friendship with the native Chubbits. Around 0 ABY, Darth Vader arrived on Aridus, seeking to capture Luke Skywalker. Vader was aided by an impersonator posing as Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was instructed to lure Skywalker into a trap within the Iron Tower on Aridus. However, the impersonator betrayed Vader, destroying the tower, which resulted in his own death and severe injuries to Vader.

Witnessing these events, Jix approached the wreckage of the tower and discovered Vader unconscious and vulnerable. Having grown fond of the Chubbits on Aridus, Jix was unwilling to allow them to suffer under Imperial rule. He rescued Vader, transporting him back to Coruscant. Upon regaining consciousness, Vader was confronted by Jix, who demanded a promise to leave Aridus and its Chubbit population undisturbed in exchange for Jix's unwavering service. Vader conceded, and Jix resumed his Imperial duties as Vader's personal attendant.

Serving Vader

Jix quickly demonstrated his value to Vader by exposing a traitor, who was subsequently executed by the Dark Lord. Later, Jix received the assignment of ensuring Luke Skywalker's continued survival on Tatooine. Vader was fully aware of Prince Xizor's (of the Black Sun crime syndicate) attempts to assassinate Skywalker. Jix journeyed to Tatooine with orders to infiltrate Jabba Desilijic Tiure's swoop gang. Soon after arriving in Mos Eisley, Jix confronted the swoop gang, which was led by Big Gizz and Spiker.

Jix on a swoop

Despite his initial bravado, Jix found himself overwhelmed by the gang, who assaulted him with chains and clubs until Gizz ordered them to cease. Impressed by his resilience, Gizz proposed that Jix participate in a race to prove his worthiness to join the gang. Jix accepted the challenge and secured victory by shooting his opponent. Once again, Big Gizz was impressed and welcomed Jix into the gang.

As a swoop racer, Jix participated in a racing championship. While on Corellia preparing for the Agrilat Swamp Circuit race, Jix was approached by an agent of Lonay. The Black Sun vigo harbored a personal grudge against racing celebrity Kimmi Chyler and sought to use Jix and his operative to publicly humiliate her. Jix, believing that Chyler's downfall would benefit his team, accepted the offer. The operative was hired as a mechanic with the task of inspecting Chyler's swoop for illegal modifications. Nevertheless, Chyler emerged victorious in the race, infuriating Jix, who confronted her and her team afterward.

In the meantime, Jabba received information from Xizor regarding the assassination of Luke. Jix suggested that such an act would provoke the wrath of Darth Vader, which amused the gang. Jabba then dispatched the gang to eliminate Luke, who was residing in Ben Kenobi's hut within the Dune Sea. Earlier in Mos Eisley, Jix had inadvertently revealed his affiliation with the Galactic Empire in the cantina, which was overheard by Dash Rendar. Rendar rushed to Luke's assistance, arriving after the gang had already engaged him.

Luke was almost defeated by the swoop gang, but he managed to hold his own while piloting a stolen swoop, leading them through Beggar's Canyon. When Spiker had a clear shot at Luke, Jix intentionally crashed his swoop into Spiker's, saving Luke's life. Although Jix suffered broken legs in the collision, Spiker was left near death, and Luke remained unharmed. However, Big Gizz still posed a threat. Enraged by the loss of most of his gang to Luke and Dash, Gizz aimed his rifle at Luke, only to be struck in the head with a rock thrown by Jix. Jix successfully completed his mission, ensuring Luke's survival so that Vader could confront him personally.

Jix and Big Gizz

Later, Jix remained with the swoop gang when Boba Fett delivered Han Solo, still encased in carbonite, to Jabba the Hutt. Fett's ship, Slave I, landed on the outskirts of Jabba's territory, and a swoop emerged from the cargo hold, towing a hovering platform. Several bounty hunters pursued the swoop rider, believing it to be Fett. The swoop gang also joined the chase. Jix and Spiker were shot down, and Spiker sustained critical injuries, leaving him on the brink of death. Jix then concealed a communications code book on Spiker's body to frame him as a traitor to Jabba the Hutt. The bounty hunters eventually caught up with the swoop rider, only to discover that it was not Boba Fett but a decoy. The real Boba Fett had successfully delivered his bounty, Solo.

Behind the scenes

Jix was a character developed for the Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire multimedia project. Originally, his role in the story was intended for a character named "Talan," who was conceived by John Wagner as the leader of a "savage," "nomadic space tribe." It is believed that Wrenga was inspired by a background character present in Jabba's Palace in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Allan Kausch noticed this character, aiming to integrate original trilogy characters into the Shadows project. Lucasfilm proposed Jix to Wagner, suggesting that he be an agent of Xizor who infiltrates Jabba's organization with the intention of capturing Luke Skywalker. The approach to Jabba would be facilitated through a swoop gang, connecting with the swoop bikes that were digitally added to the Special Edition of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Wagner suggested that it would be more logical to merge this character with Talan, portraying him as Vader's pawn with the mission to protect Luke.
