Gizman

Gizman, famously known as Big Gizz, held the position of leader within Jabba Desilijic Tiure's swoop gang in the time leading up to Jabba's demise. This towering Moggonite hybrid, reaching nearly three meters in height, possessed a powerfully built physique. He was marked by his orange-toned skin and a head of long, curly hair. His facial features displayed clear nonhuman elements, including sharp teeth and a pig-like snout. During the period of the Clone Wars, he allied himself with the Jedi Nuru Kungurama and the Breakout Squad. Years afterward, he became a part of Jabba's criminal empire, surviving beyond the death of the Hutt. Teaming up with his swoop biker companion Spiker, he joined forces with Onoh to create their own partnership.

Biography

Clone Wars adventures

Giz formed a partnership with the Jedi Nuru Kungurama.

Gizman, alternatively called Gizz or Big Gizz, was a notably tall, male humanoid character with Moggonite heritage. Sporting orange skin, he had developed a muscular build by the Clone Wars era, typically wearing his hair in a ponytail and adorning his nose and ears with rings. In 22 BBY, while on the planet Vaced, he was part of a swoop gang, riding his own swoop bike. The arrival of the Chiss Jedi Nuru Kungurama on Vaced led to Gizz chasing a Mandalorian marksman. When the sniper dropped a thermal detonator, it destroyed Gizz's swoop, prompting him to jump onto the Jedi's bike. During the chase, Gizz was rendered unconscious. Kungurama then persuaded his clone trooper unit, known as Breakout Squad, to take the unconscious Gizz with them, rescuing him from potential imprisonment by the Vaced Spaceport authorities. Subsequently, Gizz assisted Breakout Squad in their fight to defend Bilbringi Depot against the Techno Union.

Following this, Gizz accompanied Breakout Squad on their return journey to Coruscant. During the trip, the captured Overseer Umbrag feigned a medical crisis to seize Kungurama as a hostage. The Overseer then used a concealed gauntlet blaster to shoot Gizz, causing him to lose consciousness once again. Upon their arrival on Coruscant, Kungurama and the Jedi Master Harro Kelpura proceeded to Kelpura's lab in the Dacho District to investigate a break-in. However, their freighter was struck by the bounty hunter Cad Bane's dropship, resulting in a crash. Gizz, upon regaining consciousness, left a dent in the bulkhead. He woke up just in time to assist the young Jedi in confronting his missing master, Ring-Sol Ambase. Gizz held a blaster on the Jedi Master while Kungurama tried to reason with him. Ambase, having been wounded in the confrontation, soon collapsed. Five days later, Gizz joined Breakout Squad in their barracks after acquiring ribs from a waitress in CoCo Town, and was present when Grand Master Yoda tasked the clone squad with investigating the disappearance of the Spice Siren.

Gizz and Kungurama developed a strong friendship. After Kungurama was assigned to another mission, he found Gizz in Dex's Diner, flirting with the waitress Hermione Bagwa. Gizz left after Bagwa implied he was illiterate, but perked up when Kungurama invited him on the mission. Along with Breakout Squad, they journeyed to Affa aboard a Nu-class shuttle. There, they discovered the aftermath of a massacre, but continued their mission: escorting Noggox the Hutt's freighters to the Fondor Shipyards. At the shipyards, they defeated the Neimoidian pirate Dool Pundar. On the surface, they encountered a blind Twi'lek, Kuvuta Pindi, who was escorting a group of orphaned younglings to Foless. During the trip, the younglings caused chaos on the shuttle, leading Gizz to eventually stuff Charky into a storage closet out of frustration. On Foless, Breakout Squad and the younglings parted ways, but Gizz and Kungurama grew suspicious when the blind Twi'lek identified a specifically colored airbus. Gizz and Kungurama stole two swoops from the Spaceport Authority officers and chased after the bus. They forced it to stop and discovered that Pindi was working with Pundar to kidnap the younglings. Pindi fled, and Gizz pursued her into a restricted area. Pindi nearly shot Gizz, but was instead devoured by a creature. Breakout Squad then returned to Coruscant, and Gizz was treated to a celebratory dinner at Dex's Diner.

Working for Jabba

Gizz and Jix.

One day in 3 ABY, Big Gizz, while enjoying time in Mos Eisley with his friends, was challenged by a mysterious biker named Jix. Gizz was impressed by Jix's willingness to cheat during the bike match. When Prince Xizor contacted Jabba about assassinating Luke Skywalker, Jabba assigned the task to Big Gizz and his partner, Spiker. Unbeknownst to Gizz, Jix was an Imperial agent working for Darth Vader, tasked with ensuring Skywalker's survival.

Jix and Gizz's gang made their way to Jabba's headquarters. Jabba was in the middle of eating breakfast when the bikes crashed into his throne room. Jabba then received a transmission that interfered with Jix's instructions. Following Jabba's orders, the swoop gang attacked Luke, who was staying at Obi-Wan Kenobi's home near the Dune Sea. With the assistance of Dash Rendar, Luke managed to outmaneuver the swoop riders in Beggar's Canyon. Gizz sustained injuries, including a broken leg, and had a conversation with Jix about finishing the job, noting his clear shot at Skywalker. This proved to be his downfall, as Jix snuck up behind him and struck him in the head with a rock just as Luke and Dash were leaving the battle, before he could fire. Big Gizz immediately collapsed, bloody and left for dead.

The Jabba Tape

After the fiasco in Beggar's Canyon, the B'omarr monks eventually found Big Gizz and provided him with medical assistance. Following surgery and cranial reconstruction, he was fitted with a metal plate for protection, which unfortunately picked up nearby comlink and other signals. Gizz eventually traveled to the Citadel of B'omarr on Tatooine, where he encountered Spiker, who had believed Gizz was dead.

Gizz revealed to his companion that Jix had attempted to kill him and was a spy for Darth Vader. The two decided to leave the B'omarr Citadel and become freelancers. Gizz had heard about an old storehouse belonging to Jabba in the nearby Glass Mountain, where Jabba supposedly kept a well-armed ship for escape purposes. They devised a plan to steal the ship and become pirates in the local star systems.

Upon reaching Glass Mountain, they discovered that a group of thugs employed by Gorga Desilijic Aarrpo, Jabba's nephew, had already arrived. However, the bikers quickly dealt with the thugs and rescued a Lizling named Onoh, who had been stationed by Jabba to guard Glass Mountain several years earlier. Gorga's men had already opened the hangar and prepared the secret ship, Spirit of Jabba, for takeoff, leaving little work for the swoop bikers. Onoh initially protested their boarding of the ship, but relented when they informed him of Jabba's death. Gizz and Spiker found the ship to be well-equipped and armed, hoping it would help them carve out a portion of the Outer Rim for themselves. They also decided to take Onoh on as a member of their pirate crew.

One of Gorga's henchmen survived and alerted the Hutt to the situation, but Gizz and Spiker managed to fly the ship into space and gain a significant lead on Gorga's pursuing enforcers. However, an interactive security tape known as the "Jabba Tape" activated, immobilizing the ship until the security clearance code was entered. The tape also began to deplete the oxygen from the ship's bridge and sealed off all exits, estimating that they had approximately four minutes to live. During this time, one of Gorga's ships caught up with the would-be pirates. Gizz's skull plate picked up transmissions demanding their surrender. The ship fired at Spirit of Jabba, causing severe damage but also breaching a bulkhead, allowing Gizz, Spiker, and Onoh to escape the oxygen-deprived bridge.

With the artificial gravity disabled, Gizz and Spiker could only float aimlessly around the bridge and were unable to respond to Gorga's ship's transmissions and warnings due to the Jabba Tape blocking communications. Eventually, Onoh revealed that he knew the override code, allowing the bikers to deactivate the tape and announce their surrender to Gorga's ship. The other vessel escorted them towards Mos Eisley, but Gizz's skull plate picked up a transmission from Gorga stating that Gizz and his companions would be killed upon reaching the surface. They decided to resist. Gizz believed they had a chance of evading the other ship if they could lighten their load, so Spiker and Onoh went into the cargo hold and began preparing to release much of the ship's provisions onto Gorga below. They attempted to flee in Spirit of Jabba, but Gorga's ship disabled them, causing them to crash-land in the desert, kilometers from the nearest settlement.

The dark trooper incident

Big Gizz on his swoop.

Against all odds, an Imperial dark trooper that had fought against Rebel forces survived aboard a Rebel ship that crashed on Tatooine nearly 3 years prior. Jawas then discovered the wreckage and the dark trooper. While sleeping in the Mos Espa Grand Arena, Spiker and Big Gizz were awakened by the arrival of the Jawas' sandcrawler, whose crew had been massacred by the dark trooper. Upon further investigation, Big Gizz and Spiker discovered the terrifying machine.

After a fierce battle in which they both nearly perished, the dark trooper was defeated, primarily due to its age and wear. Spiker and Big Gizz rode away from its remains, their future uncertain.

Personality and traits

Big Gizz was a swoop biker. On Vaced, he participated in the pursuit of a Mandalorian not because the Mandalorian's thermal detonator had killed the swoop gang Gizz traveled with, but because it had destroyed his personal swoop. He was fond of fighting and held pirates in contempt. Gizz also enjoyed flirting with women, regardless of their species. He also developed strong bonds with his swoop gang members, such as Spiker.

Behind the scenes

The Rebellion Era Sourcebook indicates that Big Gizz is a Human. However, the more recent source The Essential Reader's Companion identifies Gizz as a Moggonite hybrid.
