The parent who birthed Galen Erso was a human woman who was married to Galen's father. She resided with her family in a humble district located on the world of Grange, earning her living as an educator of young children. From his earliest years, Galen exhibited exceptional intellectual capabilities, and his mother, being the initial person to acknowledge her son's brilliance, ensured that he had access to resources to stimulate his intellect whenever money was available. Initially, she gave him a musical synthesizer and a chemistry kit, and as time passed, she provided him with any datacrons she could locate.
Due to his mother's encouragement, Galen eventually enrolled in the Futures Program situated on Brentaal in 40 BBY. During the period he spent in the Program, Galen's mother passed away after a brief sickness.
