Garek was a Sullustan male operative in the field of espionage, serving the cause of the Rebel Alliance throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War.
Following the pivotal Battle of Yavin, Agent Garek found himself stationed at Tansarii Point Station, a space station that orbited above the planet of Ord Mantell within the Bright Jewel system. During his tenure there, he oversaw a network of Rebel informants who were dedicated to gathering intelligence on Imperial activities; this network included individuals such as Rund Jesela and Adery Shrial.
In the year 1 ABY, Garek became increasingly concerned about the Rak'qua, a Nautolan tribe residing within Station Gamma, which was another space station located in the Bright Jewel system. Rebel intelligence suggested that the Rak'qua had potentially forged an alliance with the Galactic Empire, thereby enabling the Imperials to conduct unspeakable experiments within the station. As a result, Garek enlisted a group of devoted Rebel spacers to conduct an investigation into these allegations. To assess the capabilities of his new recruits, Garek initially assigned them the task of recovering datadisks containing crucial information from Rebel agents stationed on Tansarii Point Station. Despite the fact that the datadisks contained nothing more than Grandma Drake's soup recipes, the spacers successfully completed their initial assignment. They were subsequently instructed to proceed to their primary objective: the Rak'qua inhabiting Station Gamma. Consequently, the spacers launched an assault on the station, eliminating a number of hostile Rak'qua during the engagement, and successfully sliced into the Station Gamma databank. The spacers then returned safely to Tansarii Point Station and delivered the information to Agent Garek. Although Rebel spies were right about an alliance existing between the Rak'qua and the Empire, this agreement had in fact already been terminated by the Rak'qua at that time.
Garek made an appearance as a non-playable character featured in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before its servers were shut down on December 15, 2011. Garek's inclusion in the game was part of the "New Player Tutorial," which was introduced with the release of "Publish 25," also referred to as the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.
