Giran

Giran, a Kadas'sa'Nikto male, fulfilled duties within Jabba's Palace located on Tatooine. He shared a strong affection for Jabba's rancor, named Pateesa, alongside Malakili. Giran and Malakili were both positioned near the rancor's enclosure when Luke Skywalker entered Jabba's Palace, seeking negotiations with the Hutt Crime Lord. When these discussions failed, resulting in Luke's imprisonment in the pit, he attempted an escape through a door on the far side of the enclosure. Upon opening the door, he discovered it was locked from the opposite side.

On the other side, Giran and Malakili were engaged in playful fighting over some food. Spotting Skywalker, they both used their weapons to force him back, intending to allow Pateesa to devour the prisoner. As the rancor moved toward him, Skywalker noticed a panel on the nearby wall that controlled the gate used to confine the beast. The pair could only watch helplessly as, using a nearby skull and the Force, Luke destroyed the panel, causing a short circuit that resulted in the gate crashing down upon Pateesa's skull. The rancor let out a cry of shock, struggled briefly, and then quickly died.

Witnessing this, and with Malakili silently urging him to hurry with jabbing motions, an enraged Giran unlocked the gate and charged towards Skywalker to restrain him, cursing him continuously. Malakili intervened, pushing them apart in a desperate attempt to reach the rancor, but Giran quickly regained control of Luke and handed him over to another of Jabba's guards. By this time, Malakili had confirmed the beast's death. Giran could see the confirmation on his friend's face. Overcome with grief, Giran could only put his arm around his friend, whispering comforting words as they both openly mourned the Rancor's death at the hands of Luke Skywalker.
