Bidlo Kwerve

Bidlo Kwerve served as an employee for Jabba Desilijic Tiure, the Hutt crime lord, and was either human or near-human. He found himself in competition with the Twi'lek Bib Fortuna for the position of majordomo to the Hutt. Ultimately, this rivalry led to Kwerve becoming an early victim of Pateesa, the crime lord's pet rancor, within Jabba's Palace situated on the planet Tatooine.

Biography

By the time 4 ABY arrived, Bidlo Kwerve was in the service of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, vying with the Twi'lek Bib Fortuna to become the Hutt's majordomo. This competition would prove fatal for Kwerve, causing him to fall out of favor with Jabba and lose his life. Fortuna presented their boss with a rancor as a birthday gift, which Jabba named "Pateesa" and grew fond of. Soon after Jabba started using Pateesa for execution purposes, Kwerve was dropped into a pit, becoming food for the Dathomirian beast.

After his death, Bidlo Kwerve inadvertently contributed to the demise of his own killer.

Following his death at the hands of Pateesa, Kwerve's head remained mostly intact. His skull stayed in the rancor's pit beneath the throne room, unnoticed until one morning in 4 BBY when Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, was thrown into the pit after threatening Jabba. The Jedi, unarmed, grabbed the skull and hurled it across the pit towards a door control button as the rancor tried to devour him. The button's activation resulted in the pit door descending onto Pateesa's neck, killing the creature. This event, along with Jabba's subsequent death during the rescue of [Han Solo](/article/han_solo], meant that Kwerve and numerous others were unintentionally avenged.

Behind the scenes

The skull of Bidlo Kwerve made its initial appearance in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi in 1983. Subsequently, the character was introduced, without any connection to the skull, in The Star Wars Sourcebook, published by West End Games in 1987. It wasn't until the "Jabba's Palace Limited" set of Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game came out in 1998 that the skull from Return of the Jedi was identified as belonging to Kwerve. This identification was later confirmed as canon by Star Wars: Complete Locations, a reference book released in 2016.
