Gorm

Gorm, a planet within the Outer Rim Territories, resided in the Meerian sector. Situated on the Galactic Frontier around 4000 BBY, it functioned as the homeworld for gorm-worms, venomous reptiles that were traded all over the galaxy. Approximately around 3643 BBY, someone journeyed to the ancient Gorm Academy to delve into its hidden knowledge.

Description

Gorm was a terrestrial planet found in the Gorm system, itself a component of the Meerian sector within the New Territories region of the Outer Rim Territories. It served as the home of the gorm-worms, venomous reptiles whose lethal venom led to their export across the galaxy by 3999 BBY, in spite of the risks of capture.

History

Gorm existed as a territory within Wild Space between roughly 12,000 BBY and 11,000 BBY. By approximately 5000 BBY, it was located outside the "civilized galaxy," referring to the area of space extensively explored by the Galactic Republic. Gorm had become part of that territory by 4000 BBY, at which time it was situated on the Galactic Frontier.

Sometime well before 3643 BBY, an architect conceived of and built an academy on Gorm, concealing numerous secrets inside. Around that year, someone sent an associate to study the academy, a request that the facility's custodians granted in exchange for a contribution.

When the pirate Bar-Kooda attacked a spaceliner carrying a group of performers some time before 6 ABY, he forced them all to entertain him, killing those whose performances he disliked. On one occasion, a captured singer performed a song about a binggy that had been born in a "red, red field" on Gorm. The song described the binggy being left to die in that field, and the composition saddened Bar-Kooda, though he still killed the singer.

Behind the scenes

The first mention of Gorm occurred in Bounty on Bar-Kooda, the initial entry in the Star Wars: Boba Fett series of one-shot comic books. John Wagner wrote the issue, and Dark Horse Comics published it on December 5, 1995. The 1996 Tales of the Jedi Companion sourcebook for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, created by George R. Strayton and published by West End Games, first established Gorm as a specific astronomical object. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Gorm system, and therefore Gorm itself, in grid square O-6.

In the 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, developed by BioWare, players could instruct their companions to visit Gorm as part of the Crew Skill mission "The Gorm Academy." However, the mission result text, which has since been removed from the game, instead stated that they had visited the Telos Academy on Telos, a planet in the Kwymar sector.
