Governance Treaty

The Governance Treaty represented a suggested measure to transfer authority from the Pijali monarchy to a democracy-centered Assembly. This shift would have enabled the Inner Rim planet of Pijal to become a member of the Galactic Republic. Lord [Regent](/article/regent] Rael Averross, a Jedi representing Pijal, finalized the treaty's terms by 40 BBY.

Within the treaty's formal wording, the Czerka Corporation stood to gain considerable control over Pijal's natural resources through agreements that were designed to be permanent. The Opposition started demonstrations against the Governance Treaty's ratification, planned for Princess Fanry's coronation, citing insufficient consideration for the inhabitants of Pijal's moon. During her crowning ceremony, Fanry declined to endorse the treaty.
