Czerka Corporation, alternatively known as Czerka Arms, functioned as a manufacturer of weaponry. One notable product was the Adventurer slugthrower rifle, a weapon of choice for the bounty hunter Aurra Sing during the concluding decades of the Galactic Republic. They also produced military equipment, such as the ACH-14 advanced combat helmet. Czerka Arms was infamous for its extensive utilization of slave labor, implementing elaborate systems to both hinder escapes and ensure the recapture of those who managed to flee.
According to Princess Fanry from the world of Pijal, the Czerka Corporation possessed power rivaling that of the Galactic Senate. Czerka's origins stretched back thousands of years, with some rumors suggesting it predated even the Republic itself.
Four millennia prior to the Battle of Yavin, the planet Kashyyyk was discovered by the Czerka Corporation, who then renamed the planet, first to G5-623, and later to Edean. Leveraging technologically superior methods, the company succeeded in enslaving the Wookiees until an uprising successfully expelled the invaders.
Circa 387 BBY, the government of Eiram ceded a tract of land on the Timekeeper Moon to Czerka, after their neighbor and rival E'ronoh failed to pay tariffs on their lease of the land. This action fueled renewed violence between the two planets, as E'ronoh accused Eiram of seizing their centuries-old colony. The E'roni defended the colony, even driving Czerka from the system, a decision later justified by Monarch A'lbaran who cited Czerka's pollution of Eiram's oceans.
In 40 BBY, the Czerka Corporation sought a permanent legal influence on the planet Pijal by attempting to become part of a treaty that would transition the planet from an absolute monarchy to a democratically elected Assembly. The corporation had been allied with Pijal for centuries, and had gradually accumulated more power, including oversight of the prison system. This allowed them to impose extended sentences of slave labor, and to claim any children born into slavery. An organization known as the Opposition publicly condemned the new treaty through performance art and protests. The Opposition argued that citizens of Pijal's moon and those enslaved by Czerka would not receive fair representation under the proposed government.
The Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn were sent to the planet to oversee the young princess Fanry's coronation and treaty ceremony on behalf of the Republic, only to uncover the underlying complexities. A clandestine group known as the Blackguard was committing acts of violent terrorism and framing The Opposition. Qui-Gon advised the princess and her regent, Jedi Rael Aveross, against signing the treaty, but the ceremony proceeded. Instead of signing the treaty, Fanry declared herself the absolute ruler in order to expel Czerka Corporation from the system. Her initial act was to destroy Czerka's ship Leverage, which was filled with enslaved individuals, but the Jedi and their allies prevented a potential civil war. Fanry's successor outlawed slavery in the Pijal system before signing the treaty that established a democratic Assembly. Czerka's influence on Pijal was officially terminated when their contracts were revoked by the new leader of Pijal's democratic Assembly, former minister Orth.
During the final decades of the Galactic Republic, the Czerka Corporation sponsored podraces held in the Outer Rim Territories. Czerka Arms was known for its shady dealings, and was long suspected by the Coruscant Security Force of laundering money into the Outer Rim.
In 4 ABY, during the Iron Blockade of the Anoat sector by the Galactic Empire, the local branch of Czerka Arms found itself isolated from its corporate headquarters.
In exchange for reinforcing their facility, the Czerka employees within the Anoat sector eventually chose to support the cause of the Smuggler, a young rogue who spearheaded the resistance against the Empire.
Czerka Arms was initially conceived for The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, a supplement published by West End Games for its Star Wars Legends Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. It played a role in the Legends video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, where it frequently appeared as a hostile faction aligned with groups such as the Sith Empire.
