The Grand Acquisitions Race, a galactic scale scavenger hunt, was put on by the Chevin Conglomerate. Their hope was to find a collection of rare and unique artifacts that, in their view, would satisfy the Gree species, as this species was on its way back to the galaxy.
Around the time of the Galactic War that pitted the Republic against the reconstituted Sith Empire, the Chevin Conglomerate designed a scavenger hunt called the Grand Acquisition Race. The goal was to obtain a number of items that appeared to be of great value, all while concealing their real motives from the rest of the galaxy. To promote the event, the Conglomerate monitored news broadcasts from the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire concerning the Grand Acquisition Race. They then successfully hacked the transmissions to communicate directly with the galaxy and potential participants. They promised opportunities for personal gain to anyone willing to work for them, urging them to contact them on Nar Shaddaa.
The Conglomerate's actual aim was to please the returning Gree fleet, a species that had vanished from the known galaxy thousands of years prior. Operatives from both the Empire and the Republic, including agent Reeho of the SIS, were able to see through the deception surrounding the event and discover the true intentions of the Chevin.
The Grand Acquisitions Race was initially introduced as a World Event within the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. It served as a prelude to the Return of the Gree World Event.
