The Great Sith Wars represent a collection of battles spanning numerous centuries between the Jedi and the Sith. These wars are considered to have started sometime between approximately 5000 BBY and 4000 BBY. It is also believed that the Great Hyperspace War commenced around the same period, specifically around 5000 BBY. A Sith Emperor's chambers were embellished with a frieze that portrayed a battle from the Great Sith Wars, dating back to or after roughly 4000 BBY. Following an archaeological dig on the moon Yavin 4, this bas-relief eventually fell into the hands of Sheev Palpatine.
The Great Sith Wars were initially showcased in the form of a bas-relief within the movie Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Their identification as such occurred in the 2023 reference work titled Star Wars 100 Objects. Within the Star Wars Legends narrative, the battle depicted on the bas-relief was recognized as the Great Hyperspace War.
