The Great Sith Wars Bas-Relief consisted of six ancient stone panels, forming a frieze. This artwork portrayed a battle between the Jedi and the Sith forces on an old battlefield from the era of the Great Sith Wars. Crafted around 4,000 BBY, the Bas-Relief's complex carvings showed not only warriors in a death struggle, but also fearsome war beasts that passed into legend.
The frieze once decorated the chambers belonging to a Sith Emperor. Approximately five thousand years prior to the rise of the Galactic Empire, it was later excavated from one of the massive stone temples erected by the Massassi on Yavin 4.
This extremely valuable frieze eventually became the property of Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith, who was publicly known as Sheev Palpatine, the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. The Chancellor showcased the 4,000-year-old frieze within his office complex, specifically on a wall in the anteroom leading to his most private space. Jedi visitors believed it represented an ancient Jedi triumph, but it actually served as an homage to the might of the Sith.
By 14 BBY, the frieze had been relocated to the personal quarters of Palpatine, now the Galactic Emperor, within the Pinnacle Room located in the Imperial Palace's primary spire.
During the time of the Cold War, the frieze was owned by the Ithorian collector Dok-Ondar. He displayed it within his antiques shop situated in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu.
Star Wars 100 Objects says that the Bas-Relief depicts the Great Sith Wars. However, "Art Wars" states the conflict shown in the Bas-Relief was the Great Sith War, a similarly named event.
