Great Sith War

The Great Sith War represents a significant clash between the Jedi Order and the Sith, preceding the Jedi-Sith War. This conflict unfolded around the year 1032 BBY. Jedi Master Oppo Rancisis stated that the Jedi emerged victorious from this war. Later, in 232 BBY, Rancisis referenced this victory during a Jedi High Council discussion. The debate centered on whether the Order should aid the Republic Defense Coalition in their pursuit of the Nihil raiders. A close vote ultimately favored Jedi involvement, which then resulted in the Battle of Kur.

Behind the scenes

The novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, written by Charles Soule and released in 2021, contains a canonically reference to the Great Sith War. In the Star Wars Legends timeline, the Great Sith War was initially presented in Tales of the Jedi 2. This comic, part of the Tales of the Jedi series, was published on November 16, 1993. It was written by Tom Veitch, illustrated by Chris Gossett, and edited by Dan Thorsland. The 2016 sourcebook Nexus of Power, for the Star Wars: Force and Destiny role-playing game, shares several similarities with the Legends version of the Great Sith War, even though it is not explicitly confirmed as the same event. These similarities include the presence of Ulic Qel-Droma and Exar Kun, both pivotal characters in the Legends narrative.

An "Art Wars" article suggested that the Bas-Relief sculpture owned by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine depicted a battle from the Great Sith War. However, the book Star Wars 100 Objects had previously identified the sculpture as representing the Great Sith Wars. Given that "Art Wars" is merely a magazine article, this article defers to the interpretation presented in 100 Objects.
